The Apple TV (model MA711LL/A), introduced in early 2007, is the first‑generation media streamer featuring a 40 GB hard drive. Powered by a 1 GHz Intel Pentium M CPU and 256 MB of DDR2 RAM, it connects via HDMI or component video to HDTVs and supports up to 720p resolution. It runs a customized version of Mac OS X Tiger and originally required syncing with a Mac or PC via iTunes; a later firmware update (2008) enabled standalone streaming and direct access to the iTunes Store, MobileMe, and Flickr. With built‑in Wi‑Fi (802.11b/g/n) and 10/100 Base‑T Ethernet, it can stream content from local iTunes libraries or over the internet. The device also includes optical audio and RCA stereo outputs plus a service-only USB port. A built-in fan cools the hard drive and power supply.
